At an airport for the first time, Ahlam prepares to leave behind a painful past marked by child marriage and loss. Amid the chaos, a mysterious blue deer guides her into memories of childhood, but traumas soon resurface. Haunted by her forced marriage, early motherhood, and the loss of her child, Ahlam spirals into a surreal journey through airport interrogations and dreamlike visions. As floodwaters engulf the terminal, she dives into a symbolic ocean, reclaiming her strength. Choosing liberation over fear, she leaves everything behind. In Germany, she arrives alone but empowered, ready to begin a new chapter of healing and freedom.
Biography
Rand Beiruty is a writer, director, and co-founder of Shaghab Films in Amman, Jordan. She holds a Ph.D. in representation and participatory filmmaking from Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. Her debut feature documentary, "Tell Them About Us," premiered at CPH:DOX 2024 and won the ECFA Award for Best European Feature Documentary for Young Audience. Her short animated documentary, "Shadows," premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and won the World Animation Award at Leeds International Film Festival. She has received awards from Tribeca Film Institute, Mifa Animation du Monde, and others.
