Launching “Bridges of Reality” — A New Documentary Program Dedicated to African Narratives
Marrakech, Morocco — The Marrakech Short Film Festival (MARRAKECHsFF) is proud to announce the launch of “Bridges of Reality”, a new documentary program introduced as part of its 6th edition, taking place from September 25 to 30, 2026.
Conceived as a long-term curatorial initiative, Bridges of Reality is dedicated to showcasing powerful short documentaries from the African continent and its diasporas, creating a cinematic space where realities, identities, and narratives intersect. Through this program, the festival continues to expand its commitment to diverse storytelling, emerging voices, and international dialogue.
Curated with a strong editorial vision, Bridges of Reality will present a selection of short documentary films. The program aims to highlight filmmakers who engage with reality not as a fixed notion, but as a living, shifting, and deeply personal experience.
This new section is developed in collaboration with renowned film curator and cultural figure Alex Moussa Sawadogo, whose expertise and longstanding commitment to African cinema bring a critical and international perspective to the program.
Beyond screenings, Bridges of Reality will serve as a platform for exchange and industry dialogue, integrating:
• Conversations with filmmakers and experts
• Professional encounters within the International Incubator Program (IIP)
• Opportunities for visibility and circulation of African documentary works
The program will award:
• Two Excellence Awards
• One Jury Prize
With Bridges of Reality, MARRAKECHsFF reinforces its role as a bridge between geographies, generations, and cinematic practices, while contributing to the recognition and circulation of African documentary cinema on the international stage.
Since its creation, the Marrakech Short Film Festival has positioned itself as a dynamic platform for short films, known for its open-air screenings in emblematic heritage spaces and its commitment to youth, inclusion, and cultural exchange. This new program marks a significant step in the festival’s evolution, expanding its scope toward non-fiction storytelling and continental dialogue.
