Open Call

The Marrakech Short Film Festival (MARRAKECHsFF) is currently accepting submissions for its 6th edition, taking place from September 25 to 30, 2026 in Marrakech.

We invite filmmakers from around the world to submit their work to our Moroccan, International, and Documentary competitions, and to be part of a unique open-air cinematic experience.

Submission Guidelines
• Eligibility: Open to all filmmakers, with no restrictions on age, country of origin, or genre.
• Running Time: Films must be between 6 and 24 minutes.
• Submission Deadline: May 1st, 2026

Festival Sections
Moroccan Selection
Dedicated to Moroccan filmmakers, this section highlights national talent with awards for:
• Best Director
• Best Cinematography
• Best Actor/Actress
As well as Excellence Awards presented by the festival’s international professional guests.

International Selection
Open to filmmakers worldwide, this section celebrates global storytelling with awards for:
• Best Director
• Best Cinematography
• Coup de Cœur Award
Presented by the festival’s international professional guests.

Documentary Section – Bridges of Reality
A curated programme dedicated to documentary films connected to the African continent.
Open to African filmmakers and the diaspora, this section showcases narratives rooted in African realities and perspectives. It includes:
• Two Excellence Awards
• One Jury Prize

Guest Country – Curated Programme
Each year, the festival highlights a guest country through a curated selection of films and special programming, fostering international dialogue and cultural exchange.

MARRAKECH SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2026

Festival Activities & Accreditations

The “MARRAKECHsFF” is an international short film festival that, through its open-air screenings, talent development programs, training initiatives, and international partnerships, actively contributes to positioning “Marrakech as a regional and international hub for short films”.

Each year, the festival brings together filmmakers, producers, industry professionals, international institutions, and audiences to celebrate cinema, foster meaningful encounters, and support the emergence of a new generation of talent.

 

1. SCREENINGS & COMPETITIONS
a. International Competition

A carefully curated selection of short films from five continents, offering audiences an overview of emerging cinematic voices, new forms of storytelling, and international talent.

b. National Competition

A showcase for contemporary Moroccan cinema, highlighting a new generation of Moroccan filmmakers and creating opportunities for them to connect with international industry professionals.

c. Country of Honour: Malta

For its sixth edition, “MARRAKECHsFF welcomes Malta as its Country of Honour”.

A special selection of Maltese short films, encounters with filmmakers, and professional exchanges will offer audiences an opportunity to discover the richness of Maltese cinema while encouraging new collaborations between the Moroccan and Maltese film industries.

 

d. Bridges of Reality — Documentary Program

Dedicated to African documentary cinema and stories from the diaspora, “Bridges of Reality” presents a curated selection of films followed by discussions and encounters with filmmakers and invited professionals.

e. Low Budget Film Program — Screenings

The “Low Budget Film Program (LBFP)” showcases short films developed and supported through the festival, offering audiences the opportunity to discover a new generation of Moroccan filmmakers.

f. Official Open-Air Screenings

At the heart of “Cyber Parc Moulay Abdessalam”, the festival presents four evenings of official open-air screenings in one of Marrakech’s emblematic locations.

2. AMANAR — Industry Program

“AMANAR” is the industry and professional development platform of MARRAKECHsFF, bringing together filmmakers, producers, industry experts, institutions, and emerging talents through talks, round tables, masterclasses, professional encounters, and project development activities.

AMANAR creates a space for dialogue, professional networking, knowledge exchange, and the development of new collaborations within the Moroccan and international film industries.

 

a. Opening Ceremony — 25 September

The sixth edition of MARRAKECHsFF officially opens on “25 September at Palais Badii”, bringing together filmmakers, jury members, partners, professionals, and festival guests.

The ceremony will be followed by the “Official Opening After Party”.

 

b. Closing Ceremony & Awards — 30 September

The festival concludes on “30 September at Palais Badii” with the official “Closing Ceremony and Awards”, celebrating the winning films and filmmakers of the sixth edition.

c. Official Closing After Party

Following the Closing Ceremony and Awards, guests will gather for the festival’s “Official Closing After Party”.

3. TALKS, MASTERCLASSES & INDUSTRY ACTIVITIES

From “26 to 29 September”, the festival hosts talks, round tables, masterclasses, and professional encounters bringing together filmmakers, producers, distributors, programmers, actors, and international institutions.
