SYNOPSIS
In April 2019, after the fall of President Omar al-Bashir, Sudanese from across the country make their way to Khartoum to demand civilian rule. Demonstrators occupy the military headquarters. Weeks pass and the protest grows into a utopian settlement with library tents, communal kitchens, concerts and health clinics. In this liminal space, a group of young revolutionaries create an imaginary television station to meet fellow protestors – what begins as play becomes an urgent conjuring of a new Sudan.

Biography
Roopa Gogineni is a Paris-based filmmaker and photographer. For a decade she lived in Nairobi, developing a collaborative practice alongside communities in struggle across East Africa. Her films, described as intimate and urgent, have premiered at IDFA, SXSW, Hot Docs and Sheffield Doc/Fest, and have been supported by the Sundance Institute, BFI Doc Society, CatchLight, Firelight and Chicken & Egg Pictures. She holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Oxford. She currently coordinates Night School, a network of grassroots film clubs for displaced Sudanese communities, and co-directs Sunduq Al Sudan, a fund supporting mutual aid groups on the frontlines of Sudan's counterrevolutionary war
