Spotlight on Salvadoran Cinema: Guest Country at MARRAKECHsFF 2025
For its 5th edition, the Marrakech Short Film Festival proudly welcomes El Salvador as the guest country, shining a light on the creative spirit and emerging voices of Salvadoran cinema. This special program invites audiences to explore a vibrant selection of short films that reflect the country’s raw honesty, poetic resistance, and deep sense of identity.
A Window into El Salvador’s Cinematic Voice
In recent years, Salvadoran filmmakers have begun carving out space on the global stage—telling bold, intimate stories shaped by social realities, memory, and migration. Through this focus, MARRAKECHsFF offers a rare and timely introduction to a cinema rooted in resilience and creative urgency.
Encounters and Conversations
This year’s focus will also include public dialogues and intimate talks, held in the presence of Gianfranco Castaneda, film curator and co-founder of TEG Selection, who has played a key role in spotlighting Central American film. These moments of exchange will allow Moroccan and Salvadoran artists to reflect on shared struggles and inspirations, from collective histories to cinematic language.
Shared Space, Shared Stories
By welcoming Salvadoran cinema into its program, MARRAKECHsFF reaffirms its role as a space where stories cross borders—where film becomes a bridge between communities. This year’s guest country program invites us to listen deeply, look closely, and celebrate the power of cinema to connect us all.
